What a great way to spend Sunday afternoon laying some improvised grooves with the local drummers in Montreal, Canada, as part of my overseas trip in July. My new friend and I started this rhythmic pattern and everyone joined in and got into the drumming spirit. It’s amazing how much listening goes on when performing/improvising with a group for the first time. Everyone is locked in to their own rhythm and collectively it evolves as a whole ensemble with intricate rhythms and it sounds amazing. It might of course sound like a bunch of drum noise to the untrained ear. But when everything is clicking, it sounds fantastic and creates a real buzz amongst not only the drummers, but the listening audience as well.

A great night witnessing the Legendary Jazz artist Herbie Hancock at Hamer Hall on June 9 in Melbourne. Vinnie Colaiuta was the drummer in this all star band line up. What a special treat to see the great drumming and musical skills of Herbie Hancock and Vinnie Colaiuta together on stage.
What a great day witnessing some great up and coming talent today as a guest judge for the Rockfest battle of the bands run by Cranbourne Music. Thanks Luc and Tim for giving young musicians an opportunity to perform on the big stage and your hard work in Rockfest. Thanks Rod – It was a pleasure to be part of this special event.
A great day was had by all at the Werribee Pop Up Park. Our small group of dedicated drummers (Beat Factor Drum Group) performed some fantastic Latin American and Samba drum pieces for everyone to enjoy. We were later joined by some Brazilian dancers, where more energy and crowd interaction was enjoyed by the audience and officials of the event. Well done team. I guess we all have arm aches, shoulder and neck soreness after a long day of drumming.
