Welcome to our ‘WORKSHOP’ page where you will find more details about our new classes in helping to develop skills in African, Latin, Middle-Eastern and World drumming.

The classes promote healthy living by having fun through drumming, as well as meeting and interacting with like minded residents in the community.

New ‘African Beats’  Classes- 2021

Start from 2 Feb 2021 to March 2021

Our indoor/outdoor classes in drumming will be held during December 2020 up until March 2021

Where: Saltwater Community Centre – Large room, Point Cook.

Time: 7.00 pm to 8.30pm

Cost: For Regular Students:

$15 per class, includes all drum & percussion use- under 18 yrs

$20 per class, includes all drum & percussion use- over 18 yrs

Cost: For Casual Students:

$25 per class, includes all drum & percussion use

WEEKLY DRUM WORKOUT FOR BEGINNERS IN AFRICAN BEATS

RETURNS ON MONDAY 1 FEBRUARY 

NEXT INTAKE FOR ENROLLMENTS MONDAY 5 APRIL 

Our on-line African Drumming classes resumes from Monday 1 February on ZOOM On-Line, Skype or Face Time.

The 6 Week Beginners on line course is ideal for those with limited or no experience in African drumming/hand drumming who want try out their drumming skills.

Beginner Course focuses on:

  1. Learning basic technique on the Djembe drum
  2. Developing a strong groove, feel and control
  3. Developing on timing and listening skills
  4. Developing on Ensemble skills & working as a team
  5. Working on call & response concepts/Solo ideas
  6. Exploring different drum piece arrangements
  7. Creating a sense of well-being and having fun

On-Line Prices:

Beginners: Mondays: 7.00 pm -8.00 pm

Pre-Pay for our 4-6-week course and receive one free class.

Or $12.50 per person, per class -under 18 years

Or $17.50 per person, per class -over 18 years

Bookings and part-payment must be made by 1 February to receive the Free Class.

 

WEEKLY DRUM WORKOUT IN AFRICAN & LATIN BEATS- INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

RETURNS ON TUESDAY 2 FEBRUARY TO 30 MARCH

Our Intermediate African Drumming classes resumes from Tuesday 2 February to end of March.

The 8 Week Intermediate course is ideal for those who have completed our 6 Week beginner course or who have some previous experience in hand drumming and would like to develop those skills further in their musical journey.

Intermediate Course focuses on:

  1. Developing on tones and slaps technique on the Djembe drum
  2. Developing a strong groove and stamina for extended play
  3. Exploring other African percussion, Dun Duns, (Big Low Drums), Gankogui (Bell) & Axsatse (Shakers)
  4. Rhythmic relationships between Djembe and other African percussion instruments.
  5. Working on more complex ensemble pieces
  6. Developing solo ideas and free improvisation skills
  7. Holding a steady tempo in a supporting role and as a soloist.
  8. Developing on Ensemble skills & working as a team
  9. Creating a sense of well-being and creativeness
