Into the groove – Part I

What a great way to spend Sunday afternoon laying some improvised grooves with the local drummers in Montreal, Canada, as part of my overseas trip in July. My new friend and I started this rhythmic pattern and everyone joined in and got into the drumming spirit. It’s amazing how much listening goes on when performing/improvising with a group for the first time. Everyone is locked in to their own rhythm and collectively it evolves as a whole ensemble with intricate rhythms and it sounds amazing. It might of course sound like a bunch of drum noise to the untrained ear. But when everything is clicking, it sounds fantastic and creates a real buzz amongst not only the drummers, but the listening audience as well.
