I first started playing music in the form of the keyboard. I did enjoy it for the majority of the time I played it, but then my interest for the instrument slowly depleted. I did not play any instrument for a long while after this. Even getting the thought that I would never play music again. This was until I made the decision to play one of the most powerful instruments, the drums.

I began my drumming journey in February 2023. I started as a complete beginner. Not being able to identify the different drums. Being bombarded with completely new sheet music compared to the keyboard. I was not even able to hold the sticks properly. All of this was like learning a new language. I felt unconfident about how I was going to pursue this instrument. However, I was determined to get through these obstacles to get through the difficult part of the race.

Now, after two enjoyable years, improving every month, I can now say that I am able to hold the drum- sticks! Jokes aside, with the help of Rod, I have made great progress over this strong, short two -year period. Being able to identify parts of the drums, reading intermediate sheet music and playing intermediate songs. I even made enough progress to get selected for my school band! Each session with Rod, each song I play, even each beat I play, gives me a sense of joy, and a reason to believe that the drums was the right instrument for me. In this present day, I am confident in my drumming abilities, determined to learn new songs, and ready to strive in the drums. As Adam Clayton has said in one of his quotes, “the drums tell me everything. Everything else registers a millisecond later.”
